Military
cargo often ships in protected convoys. But civilian haulers also
handle much of it. If a military shipment were stolen, the liability
could be far greater than the cost of the cargo. The loss of lethal
weapons to terrorists and thieves is unthinkable. In the wrong
hands, they could bring down airliners, bridges or even chemical
plants.
The consequential
damages and claims could be catastrophic for even the largest shippers
and insurers.
The world
needs a more secure way to ship such cargo so authorities can be
alerted in real time to theft. The system should also pinpoint
the location of the stolen cargo so authorities can recover it
quickly, before damage is done.
