Malicious
mischief and eco-terrorism also threaten these cargoes. Simply
opening a valve on a tanker truck and walking away could endanger
public health and necessitate a clean-up costing hundreds of thousands
of dollars.
Yet the
majority of these trailers have no locks or cargo security systems
installed. Even when installed, drivers rarely use them because
of the inconvenience. Moreover, drivers often leave these rigs
unattended for extended periods near shopping malls, hotels, restaurants
and residential areas. Public concern is growing.
The world
needs a way to secure tanker trucks that actually works. It must
be so easy to use that drivers actually use it.
